February 6-8, 2009 The inaugural Big Ears Festival launches this weekend.
While most of the festival’s major concert events center around the beautiful and acoustically exquisite Bijou Theatre, there are great shows at the Knoxville Museum of Art, the Square Room on Market Square, the Pilot Light and Catalyst in the Old City, with a special festival headquarters and interactive learning annex set up on the fifth floor of the Woodruff building on Gay Street. Plus, the Tennessee Theatre is hosting free screenings of two films scored by Philip Glass.
So many unique and rare performances comprise Big Ears that we hesitate to single anything out, but these shows are among the major highlights that will be at the Bijou this weekend:

The Big Ears Festival has teamed up with the Knoxville Museum of Art for the kick off event of this truly dynamic festival experience. Matmos, Sxip Shirey’s Sonic New York and the Luminescent Orchestrii launch the festival at KMA’s musical showcase Alive After Five on Friday, February 6, at 5 pm. Tickets for the kick off event can be purchased for $10 at the door, or you can purchase a festival pass that gets you into all of the weekend’s festivities by clicking here.
